We Believe You

False allegations are not rare, as any criminal solicitor will attest. There is no need for evidence of any kind to bring charges. The word of the accuser will suffice.

Over recent years there has been a huge increase in false accusations of rape and sexual abuse, particularly historic sex abuse allegations. In this brilliant and illuminating short film, campaigner, Patrick Graham, tackles this subject head-on with a series of interviews with the falsely accused. It is not an exaggeration to say that this film invokes horror and that all right-minded citizens ought to be concerned. Anyone from any walk of life can be subjected to a false allegation. In the words of one interviewee, describing his experience:

I think the police were not interested one bit in the truth of the matter at all – what they wanted was a conviction. This whole thing is driven by performance, by statistics; it’s driven by political dogma, it’s driven by ideology. Without the impartiality of law, what have we got?
