This study The British False Memory Society: Caseload and details by year is the first of its kind. It analyses the caseload of the British False Memory Society (BFMS) comprising almost three decades of data, c. 1993 – 2021. It ought to cause alarm bells for anyone interested in the criminal justice system and false memory-type allegations. In total, 35% of BFMS members were subjected to police investigation, resulting in 227 wrongful convictions – 10% of cases. The article demonstrates that any person in the UK can be accused, often on the word of a single complainant, of sexual allegations based on false and recovered memories spanning 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60 years. Miscarriages of justice are not rare, and they happen to people from all walks of life.
